All Grown Up, At Least To His Mom

I can't believe how fast time has gone! Sometimes each day feels like an eternity and I'm begging for Taylor to finally walk in the door and take James. Others, six o'clock comes and I have no idea what we've done that took up so much time! Either way, today is Friday and that means the weekend and Taylor home and of course catching up on Downton Abbey.

So, the pictures are in reverse order. This is James at 7 months!! Can you believe that!? Seven whole months, it's crazy. He has lost his baby look. He is becoming a little boy all too quickly!

I love the faces he pulls. Where did this one come from?
Hooray for SUNSHINE!! It was a beautiful day! Probably hit low 60s. We had a great lunch meeting Taylor at work.

Here's his 6 month photo. Obviously much happier than 7 months.

Waiting for the plane on our way home from Utah. When all else fails he always has his pant ties.

Nothing beats out pic-a-boo to pass the plane ride! Thank you Southwest for having an entire row all to myself!

Nana finally got to meet James! We had crossed paths 3 times. I was in Detroit a week before she got there, I was in Utah when she was in Detroit, then I was back to Detroit right after she left for Utah! James was a little fussy and wouldn't be cute for the camera so I took the video instead.

Grandma Becky was nice enough to babysit James for a morning, on her birthday and everything! I came home to this cute sight.

James and Aurora were so sweet together. The pretty much ignored each other, but still pretty cute.

The cousins! One day they'll be besties, I know it!

The smolder. Nothing says cute like chewing on diaper rash cream.

Another face of James. How great is that.

LOVES Solids. He gets so angry if I don't feed him fast enough.

The new whine. Isn't it cute?

Babies in hoods. Can't beat that.

The eyebrow. It kills me every time. How cute is that!!

So sweet. He is sometimes (cough cough) the best shopping partner.

We have a tooth!

This has been a big week for us! Sleep training James, he slept through the night Thursday! He still wakes up around 3 most nights, but only fusses for a bit and goes right back to sleep. In all his crying at night he has become a pretty good roller! Every morning I find him on his stomach. He rolls all the time, except when I pull the camera out. James got a tooth, it poked through on Sunday, I was in denial all week that he was teething, but lo and behold he was. Taylor and I actually spent an evening together! Friday night James went down at 8 and we stayed up until 11 watching Downton Abbey and The Office, just like the good old childless days. James is back to taking a binky, not sure how long it will last this time, but it has been 2 whole days! And the biggest development in my opinion, James said Momma! He has been making mama sounds for awhile but tonight in the tub, without any coaching from me just brakes out with a big Momma he said it about 3 times before we got the camera. My heart melted :)

Pretty much all the goods are in the first 20 seconds

Where did 2012 go?

The Holidays make everything fly by! I can't believe we are already into January. I think I spent too much time in 2012 focusing on being pregnant and then focusing on James growing up! We had a pretty incredible year and 2013 is proving to be just as good.

Cute James hanging out in the rocker.

Finally he takes a binky and loooves it! For about two days...

The new binky? Black licorice. He loves it.

The only time we could get Whit off her new iPod

Oh, Matthew. Endless entertainment for the whole family. He was always getting James to smile.

Good morning! Noon on the east coast = wake up time for James.

What shall we do with a drunken sailor? A certain Aunt was pushing James trying to keep him calm while we shopped and suddenly she noticed the stroller was much ligher than it should be. Granted, I did forget to buckle the little guy in, but it was cold outside so we rushed right into the mall! Cute little guy didn't make a peep.

Gingerbread houses. This year was especially impressive.

Grandpa, always trying to come around when James was in a good mood. By the end they were pals.

Heidi and Dane entertaining James...or themselves during church.

Airport :( At least James was happy.

Another shot at another binky solution. He likes the wubbanub off and on. Thanks Grandma for never giving up!

Bed head! Good morning pacific time!

James is loving solids. Bananas are his new favorite

Mom of the year award goes to me! We drove all the way to Costco with James not buckled up. I went to get him out and found this. I wondered why he was being so good.

So, we've been letting our little guy cry it out :( It's been a bit rough, but he's done amazingly well! This was the morning after the first night, proving to Taylor that he still loved us.

Miss Sienna

Our really good friends have a baby girl 3 1/2 months older than James. The other day I had errands up by their house and Carissa was nice enough to keep James for an hour! Of course curious Sienna crawled right over to James (who is completely immobile and helpless) and did what babies do, put everything in their mouth.
Apparently, she realized James's head was too big to eat, so she went for a nice lick instead! You can sort of see the wet mark on his forehead.

Hmm...what shall I try next? I'm sure James had the time of his life.

Being a Parent is Rough

James is a tough kid. He's adorable, but man can he be demanding.

Me? Little ol' me demanding? No...

We are trying to get him to sleep better, he is still getting up 3 times a night. It's time for things to change.

But how can you say no to this face Mom? I get up all night long so I can spend more time with you!

I never had much sympathy for parents who had kids 1 year plus still getting up in the middle of the night or sleeping with them. I thought, come on!! Show that kid who is boss and make him sleep in his own bed, sure it's tough, but it must be done! Well, I am now one of those parents, except my kid is only 4 months. However, based on how things are going, we're going to need the next 8 months to sleep train him.

This is typical sleeping James. Cute right? Angelic isn't he? Indeed he is, but that is because he's fallen fast asleep eating away and now is happily dreaming his milk coma away. (I have tried repeatedly to wake him in this state, it is darn near impossible, trust me.) What will happen in ten minutes from now? He'll wake up screaming. And though we do our best, he has just taken a 10 minute power nap and is ready to go for the rest of the night! Rest of the night meaning about 11. My kid doesn't go to bed until 11. What is the matter with us?! Show that kid who is boss and put him down at 8.

So after visiting the Doctor yesterday and getting some of her advice, we decided to do just that. We bathe him, lotion him, swaddle him, read to him, kiss him and put him in his crib to go to sleep. I don't know about you, but if someone did that to me, I'd be out in seconds. Not James. He'll lay there all of a minute, maybe two if we are lucky. Then he'll start his pouty moans which quickly, ever so quickly, become angry moans, to crying, to screaming, to shrieking so hard he makes himself spit up, choking on the spit up and becoming all the more upset.

I don't know how this goes with most kids, but if you let James cry he just gets worse and worse. Though he loves to suck on his fingers when he is happy, he forgets those little things when he is angry and just screams and yells. Nothing settles him (we were trying the patented leave for 1 minute, go back settle him best you can, leave for two minutes, go back, leave for 4 minutes etc etc etc) well one thing does--picking him up, patting his back, sushing in his ear until he is fast asleep on your shoulder. The problem with this? He isn't learning how to put himself to sleep. Since he doesn't put himself to sleep he doesn't sleep as long, which leaves me getting up with him at 12:30, 3:30, 6:30 and finally 8.

Solution? I have none. He fails at calming himself. I fail at being able to listen to him scream for more than 30 minutes. I border between bawling and laughing, not knowing which is more pathetic.

His late afternoon nap was the worst today. He was supposed to go down at 4, once 5:30 rolled around he was finally asleep. Yep, it took about an hour and a half to get that darn kid asleep. I read, I swaddled, I shushed him and patted his back to get him in the mood and extra groggy, then gently laid him in his crib and walked away. This led to 40 minutes of me in and out of his room. Finally caving, I fed him but kept him awake and tried again. Nope. Put him in the swing, nope. Shrieking cries is all received in return for my hard work. Then I had the brilliant idea, I'll put him on his changing table. He LOVES his changing table, hates a pacifier hates the car, but loves getting his diaper changed. This is what I hear next. (Yes, it is supposed to be black, the lights are off, he's supposed to be naping!)

Cute little James cooing away. I thought I finally had it made. Nope! Not five minutes later, guess who is screaming again? So, I cave. I'm tired, I'm hungry, I've done nothing for the last 90 minutes but listen to him scream. I pick him up, stare into those big watery swollen eyes, put him over my shoulder  and shush him to sleep. Finally.

Guess who just woke up?

Halloween and What Nots

So, it's a bit out of order but, here are finally some Halloween photos.

We tried to go to the Stake Trunk or Treat, but someone wasn't behaving. *Taylor* Then James fell asleep in the car on the way there, so we left and went to 5 Guys instead. Perfect evening.

 Our cute little cowboy!
Trick or Treating in Magnolia! Still regretting not taking some Dots for myself

These are my absolute favorite photos of James. Mr. Inquisitive in his business casual attire

Go Cougars! Thank you Kristina for the brilliant idea of putting baby legs on his arms.

Watching the game, loves sports just like his Mom

My headband became his perfect chew toy. Just the right size to grasp on to and apparently the perfect texture.

Utah!

James and I had a great time in Utah! It was so fun to finally meet Aurora and hang out with all the fam.
Someone was really loving to hold James. Good thing he just had another grand baby and a third is on the way!

Besties!! Or one day they will be, only 4 days apart.

Just a small minor size difference

Help! Get this fat kid off me!

Holden LOVES babies! He wanted to hold James every time we got together.

Yea snow!!

I love Utah :) We got a foot of snow. Nothing like fresh snow and blue skies

This is what happens when you leave your camera in a random location. Here's to you Dane!

On the plane, he loves those fingers!

James looks huge on Holden's lap.
Grandma Becky, it's so great to hang with her! It's as close as I get to hanging out with my Mom

So glad we got to see Lindsay and Matt.

Dropping Hansen off at the MTC.

The tough face

Great Grandma Carter!

James hates the car, absolutely despises it. But, on this one journey he was so cute.

Cute Grandpa Millett. He is famous on my side for singing "Taylor Daniel, Taylor Daniel..." at our wedding.

Home sweet home. Happy to be back with Dad!
